Dr. Jason Philippe

MD

Family Medicine physician, lifelong learner, former Division 1 athlete, and the kind of person who’s never been satisfied with just doing one thing.

The beginning

I was born and raised in South Ozone Park, Queens (New York) — a product of a Haitian household, led by a strong mother who made sure I knew that, “In this house, this is Haiti — out there is America.” That stayed with me. My values, my drive, and my perspective are all shaped by that cultural foundation: resilience, family, and purpose.

Growing up in a single-parent home in urban New York, my mom worked multiple jobs to keep me grounded and out of the streets — filling my world with music, sports, and structure. I played the violin for 15 years, studied music theory, and developed a love for jazz through the saxophone. I took karate, learned to swim, even took ice skating lessons. I became a passionate multi-discipline learner.

But my first love? Basketball.

I started in the 3rd grade, playing throughout high school, as well as AAU; and eventually walked on to the Division 1 Men’s Basketball team at Wake Forest University, sharing the court with future NBA stars. That experience — along with joining Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. — shaped me into a leader and a builder of community

From helping organize mentorship programs for at-risk youth with the Brothers Reaching Out (BRO) initiative on campus, I’ve always believed in showing up, especially when it matters most.

My Medicine Journey

After college, I took a winding path toward medicine. I worked two jobs, training clients as a personal trainer, and helping people return to school by enrolling them into online college programs. I explored DJing and even dabbled in Twitch streaming, but the vision of becoming a doctor never left.

My journey sent me to grad school in Philadelphia, then medical school in Michigan, where I balanced the demands of becoming a physician while continuing to advocate for others — from sitting on school committees to meeting members of Congress to push for better graduate medical education funding.

But I’m also still a jazz saxophonist at heart. A lifelong anime fan. A gamer. A gym rat. A former step-show competitor. A Haitian New Yorker. And someone who refuses to be boxed into one lane.
